The idea of learning a new language is daunting and may seem overwhelming. While it is perhaps generally considered to be a young person’s endeavor, with a little research I discovered that older people are quite capable of learning a second and even third language.  So, as an older person I tossed aside inhibitions and any notion that it may be too much for an older person to learn another language, and chose to accomplish a desire of many years, that of becoming fluent in Hebrew.  My search for the “how to do it” began, which fortunately led me to Orit Kamara.   Orit’s native language is Hebrew, which she has now been teaching in the United States for many years, providing both private lessons, small group lessons, and as well teaching college level classes.  Orit’s “small group” class, which I chose to take, is fun and challenging.  The class soon became a highlight of my week.  In class we master the elements of Hebrew grammar, while simultaneously learning to read and speak Hebrew.  It was encouraging for a beginner to find that both in class, and privately, Orit is sensitive to the learning needs and skill level of the individual student, and the time each, many of whom have full time jobs, is able to dedicate to learning Hebrew.  The real excitement came when Hebrew words and sentences began to flow naturally from my lips.  As one of her students I can heartedly say that Orit is the perfect guide for anyone, young or old, whose goal is to become fluent in Hebrew.
